Hana to Akuma

Posted by Unknown at 02:20 0 comments

This manga was amazing.
It evoked so much emotion from me, I was constantly giggling, squealing, yelling with excitement, frustrated and crying. Yes, it made me cry.
I became so involved and empathetic towards the characters that by the time the end approached I was completely consumed by their feelings. My heart broke with theirs, I couldn't help it I felt I was experiencing it. Weirdly I could feel the pain much more than the joy. Guess I'm a sadist like Vivi.

The manga was pure and beautiful. There's a bit of a taboo but as you read you learn the circumstances and the way the characters think and see things, and everything just seems right.
It was a magnificent love story with passion, fear, fantasy, longing, friends and flowers.

Hana is a truly pure character. Almost every action she makes is to help make someone happy. She loves the demon Vivi who took her in as a baby when she was abandoned outside his mansion. Every morning she brings him a flower, even though if he touches it it'll crumble, because he's a demon, she still brings him one without fail because she want to give it to him. Simple but effective reasoning.
Vivi isn't a kind man, at least not to anyone but Hana, she changes him. He took her in to suspend his boredom but 14 years quickly fly by.
He won't touch her for a long time, too afraid she'll crumble like her flowers. As the manga progresses you begin to realise how much these two are connect to each other, neither wants to be without the other, ever.

Hana begins to grow and feelings in both awaken for each other, something both desperately try and ignore. But along with their realisation of their feelings for the other come obstacles and trials from the demon world who want their Duke, and possible future Demon king back, but they also want to eliminate the human possessing his heart and mind.
However most of the demons who come to bring him back end up loving the little pure and kind-hearted Hana. Her bravery and love for Vivi fuel some of the most heart-warming and breaking scenes and Vice Versa.

The ending was as it should be, to change it would have been cheap, but still- part of me was wishing for some amazing magic to keep the love story going forever.
I cried when it was over, later in bed as I tried to sleep, I couldn't stop thinking of their love and tears just trailed down my face.
It may be strange to say but, I love when a manga makes me cry.
Theres something so powerful about something fictional that can make you well up with emotion until you're overflowing.
Something very real and fantastic.

Ao Haru Ride

Posted by Unknown at 08:53 0 comments

Yoshioka Futaba is your normal High School girl, filled with insecurities and struggling to find herself. She's cute but due to harsh bulling in middle school because of it, she changed her image and became a rough and tumble loud mouthed girl. Her 'friends' aren't really friends to her, one day she stands up for a quiet and cute girl her friends are picking on, which results in her once again being excluded from her group- exactly what she never wanted to happen again.
But instead of letting it consume her she decided to work hard and change herself into someone she'd be proud to be. It's not easy and it takes some time but eventually she gains two close friends- Makita Yurri and Murao Shuuko
The girls are all quite different but they do share something in common, they're trying to find out who they really are and aren't satisfied with the normal attitude among girls in their school.

Yurri is cute, quiet and sweet but is left out by the girls as they're jealous of the attention she gets from boys.
Shuuko is stern and expressionless. She doesn't take any shit and doesn't get along with people who pretend to care about their friends.
Futaba pretended to be someone she wasn't so she wouldn't get mistreated like Yurri for being cute, but eventually the facade broke when she stood up for her.

But the main story focus' on her past and present relationship with Tanaka Kou.

In middle school the two shared mutual feelings for each other, but Tanaka Kou left before anything was able to develop. When Futaba enters High School she is reunited with her first love.
Both have changed but especially Kou, he's become dark and empty, it turns out he's had a troubling time since Futaba last saw him, but she's drawn to him just like years ago. She won't stop, she's determined to get him to reconnect with life and forces her way back into his life.

The two have a difficult journey, theres plenty of jealously, heartbreak and misunderstandings, which lead to more heartbreaks.
The manga spans over their High School careers, showing how the two begin to grow up and mature. They face many hardships, not all of which they manage to overcome.

This manga was incredibly realistic, I felt it really showed the struggles of love, friendships, relationships and life in general but also all the wonder and excitement that comes along with them.
I became so invested in the characters relationships and found it tough to stop reading and actually sleep or work. So i'm pretty sleep deprived but it's worth it!
After reading this manga I really came to appreciate how important it is to speak your mind and be honest with yourself and those around you, before it's too late.
'Time is slipping right through my fingers and I can never get it back'
So I guess enjoy every moment you can!
Before you're dead.

Magnet na Watashitachi

Posted by Unknown at 04:00 0 comments

This was a cute and delightful manga!

It was only 6 chapters long but it leaves you quite content,
which is something a lot of manga doesn't succeed to do,
at least for me.
There are two main characters; Uchimura Aki and Tsunugi.
Don't they look like a cute pair?

Uchimura Aki
Is known as the 'infamous rude guy'.
He's been isolated from the class for being moody and depressing.
He never speaks with any of his classmates, and when they try to he just leaves with a glare.
Not very approachable.
He also hates woman due to a traumatic event in his childhood.

However one day when Tsumugi goes to pick up her niece from daycare, she noticed Aki awkwardly standing outside the gates acting like a weirdo.

Tsumugi confronts him and discovers that this scary rude guy actually loves children and dreams of opening his on daycare.
How sweet!

Tsumugi invites Aki to join her in collecting her niece which makes him incredibly happy. The two become close and Tsumugi becomes determined to get Aki to open up to his classmates so they'll stop misunderstanding him.
Her feelings for Aki begin to progress and soon she wants to be more than just friends, but does Aki see Tsumugi in that way or is he still too traumatised from his past with girls to look at her romantically?

It's a sweet story of a girl determined to help the guy she likes open up in the hope that one day he can achieve his dream, and maybe look her way.

Tsumugi is a strong girl who doesn't shy away from pressure or abuse, she faces everything head on and is willing to stand up for her friends regardless of the consequences.
Without the help of Tsumugi, Aki would never change and would still be lonely and misunderstood.
Even though she likes Aki she's willing to put her feeling aside to help him make the progress needed for him to really open up and get over his fears.
That's selfless. She's awesome.

But it's more than just her side of the story, it's also about this young man overcoming his fears and opening up to those around him. Something I think everyone has had trouble with at some point in their life, goes to show everyone needs a friend!
What's her dream? We never know, it's all about his.....

Watashi Ga Motete Dousunda

Posted by Unknown at 11:05 0 comments

I love this manga.
It's the story of a girl named Serinuma Kae. She's a chubby second year high school students who's also a huge Fujoshi ( a girl who like BL/yaoi).
She's always been surrounded by beautiful guys and gets along with everyone as she's cheerful and happy, regardless of her figure.
However after the death of her beloved anime character she becomes so depressed she locks herself away in her room refusing to leave or eat anything! After just a single week she is transformed;

Before

She's a chubby, yet lively and cheerful girl who loves what she loves, BL!
The guys don't fancy her but they think she's quite funny so they're nice to her.

 After

Just ONE week! ONE WEEK!
It's not possible of course cause I mean it can't be, but you can imagine what kind of shock this is going to cause.
And how the guys will swoon.

She shocks even herself!

Suddenly all the guys are in love with her, in particular 4 men she's been friends with until now.

Igarashi-Kun, He's always been kind to Kae but he's never shown any interest other than that of a pet towards her before she lost all her weight.

Nanashima-Kun, He's been a bit of a cheeky bastard towards Kae, uses her as a cushion when falling, makes fun of her weight and laughs at her. Yet when he see's her for the first time after her transformations he's all over that. Ass.

Shinomiya-Kun, He's a first year who Kae met just before her period of grieving. He used to look down on her and called her rude name. But alas, she's beautiful and he becomes a love struck pup.

Matsumi-Kun, There's nothing negative I could possibly say about this guy. He's always been close with Kae as they're in the same club, and he didn't double back in shock when he first saw her, because he knew exactly who she was. However he's a bit slow on the romance side and just likes everyone, for a long time there are no particular feeling or desire for Kae. He just likes her, as a person.

They all pine for her attention and decide, for the time being- to share her and take it slow(well Mutsumi just wants to be apart of the group).
But as each guy gets to really know her each truly begins to fall in love. She however is just enjoying fantasizing about a relationship between them.

This manga focus' on the attention beautiful girls get and how shallow men can be, but Kae never changes, she continues to be the weird, kind hearted, hard working Otaku lover she's always been, and this is in the end, what the guys really fall for- she just had to become beautiful before they'd consider her....>>
The struggle to win her affections introduced brilliant comedic battles between the men!

A wonderfully refreshing manga with brilliant characters!
The men, though they start off shallow, become admirable and open-minded men with Kae's help.
I think this manga has an important underlining story, it's a simple one we've all heard of but clearly needs more teaching-

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

They judged her when she was fat, not taking the time to really get to know her.
Then they judged her when she was pretty, becoming shocked when they realised what a bit of a weirdo she also was.

Plus it's fun!
Best kind of lesson!

Shinobi Yoru Koi Wa Kusemono

Posted by Unknown at 07:58 0 comments

Based in Modern Japan.
Two powerful families have been fighting for centuries the Toyoda family and Toujo family.
Kanade is the shinobi of the Toujo family, she's charged with protecting Keigo-sama, her childhood friend and next leader of the family. Her first assignment is to attend the all boys school and accompany her master in disguise, as a male.
Also attending the same school and in the same class is Eishi Toyoda- oldest heir to the Toyoda family who's family has been suppressing the Touji family for generations, he however is a big goof, not at all serious. Not the mortal enemy Kanade was expecting to encounter.

But Eishi fell in love with Kanade at first sight, granted he thought she was a girl when he first met her, which she is, but the first time they're introduced is when she transfers in as a new MALE student.
Heartbroken </3
Kanade is VERY serious about her duties as Keigo-sama's Shinobi, even concealing her true sex in order to stay by his side. They have a very close relationship as they've been together for years. Kanade is willing to give her life for Keigo-san, but he's quite clearly in love with her.

The manga can become slightly ecchi, which i like! hee hee
It's incredibly addictive once you start, you can't stop until you've consumed it all!
Family feuds, forbidden love, gender bender, love triangles and a strong and hot female lead!
It has everything to keep you hooked and plenty of twists that'll shock you!
I throughly enjoyed this manga, and it's still ongoing!
If you haven't read it, I suggest you do!

Childhood friends. It's a popular theme in Japanese manga and it's always a member of the opposite sex, I can't recall if i've ever read a manga where the childhood friends are both female or male. I suspect it wouldn't be as interesting.
But It did make me wonder, can a romance between childhood friends really work? I mean you'd have a routine already, it'd be difficult to change your dynamic into a romantic one. Like suddenly holding hands or kissing, regardless of how much you want it, humans are creatures of habit so I imagine it'd be difficult.
On the other hand you get to date your best friend.

That's what this manga is all about. Two childhood friends trying to have a go at dating.
Tomori Tsubasa has always secretly loved her childhood friend Isagawa Shou.

He's handsome, very popular and even though he's been confessed to plenty of time he's always rejected, giving Tsubasa hope.
Eventually Tsubasa blurts out how she feels and they progress from there.
It's hard to tell how Shou really feels, I think we can all agree how annoying that is. Shou is a good looking character, but honestly he bothers me. He lacks in and real emotion, he's only ever sweet once told off, never takes the initiative so you always feel the romance is one-sided. I've dated the real thing, it can be quite unsettling....
However they're really cute together when he puts in any effort at all, i'm enjoying watching their relationship evolve from friendship, will it last or crash and burn?
It can get pretty cringy- but that's just teenage love stories in a nut shell.

The manga is still ongoing so theres still time to see how these two kids work things out!
The drawings are great, the style differs slightly for each character. Tsubasa always looks a bit raggedy and nervous, she's also the only one ever drawn in comedic styles, then again she'd the only one that can't seem to keep her cool!

Shou on the other hand is drawn tidy and collective, just like his character. However he's also an artist, his hair fits the part. I kind of wonder how the two managed to stay such close friends with their very different personalities. Maybe Shou has secretly loved her the whole time too without even noticing...

Over all a sweet story and an enjoyable read!
It'll make you laugh and cover your eyes with shock at the silly things Tsubasa does!
It'll also make you wish you had a childhood friend, or make you get in contact again with one!
It does take a few months for even one update though....>>

Hirunaka No Ryuusei

This is one of my all time favourite manga!
It's a story thats been told before, but then now days what hasn't? But the way this manga presents the story is original, fun, creative and wonderfully drawn. The characters are all so beautiful and the lead is electric, interesting and unique!

It's all about a high school girl named;
Yosano Suzume.

She's a day dreamer, pretty and a little unusual. She comes from a small country village in Japan, her life there is quiet, calm and comfortable and surround by people she's known her whole life.
Her life takes a new turn when she's forced to move to Tokyo and live with an uncle she's never met, because her parents are moving to Bangladesh for work.

Life in Tokyo is unlike anything she's experienced before. It's loud, filled with people and a lot of them are a little 'weird' at least to her.
She's desperate to meet a friend but her class doesn't seem to want to be involved with the country hic. It's not until she discovers the secret of a fellow classmate and blackmails him into becoming her friend, his name is; Mamura-Kun
(I know he's a drawing and an animated one at that but how beautiful is he?!)

This doesn't help Suzume's situation as her relationship with Mamura-Kun, causes the girls to become jealous by her 'special treatment'.
She eventually makes some friends but does the foolish thing of falling in love with her teacher.
Yup, told you this story had been done before.
Theres a whole bunch of drama that follows her after she confesses her love for her sensei, all very dramatic and exciting.
But the BEST thing about this manga is the end for - 'the other guy'
As any shoujo, or korean drama fan knows there is ALWAYS an 'other guy'. This is the guy that secretly loves the leading lady in the manga. He's the one who's always by her side, who supports her, who defends her, who's really sweet and thoughtful and who never makes her cry. He's also NEVER chosen. I've read A LOT of manga and watched a lot of dramas and in every situation the good guy, the one everyone secretly wants her to be with rather than the guy that broke her heart numerous times, that was rude or cheated yet he's the one she 'loves' and he's usually always the one chosen. But this manga likes to keep you on your toes! And it's what makes this manga so great for me!
It had every aspect you search for in a romance manga.
Strong female lead
beautiful guys
Love triangle!
Drama
School life
forbidden love
friendship
etc.... It's the perfect shoujo manga! and there's plenty of chapters so you won't be done in half an hour of binge reading and feel empty once you've finished!

The manga is a simple story, A beautiful girl desired by all men that lay eyes on her, but rejected by jealous female classmates. She's a simple girl who just wants to find love, she's kind, cute and hardworking. Her family is poor so she works part time at a cafe and cares for her 3 younger brothers.
Her name is Nono and she only has two friends;

Yuika- a level- headed wise girl who tends to steer Nono in a more reasonable direction.

She's also secretly talented at basically everything. Thoughout the manga you'll notice she's smart, great at sports and very pretty. On top of that she's just cool, where all the other girls are jealous of Nono's good looks and attention from guys, Yuika doesn't seem to care and just supports her friend.
Unfortunately the story is about Nono, so Yuika doesn't get much of a story.

Kuzuma- is a popular guy, good looking and a flirt. Nono usually hates flirts but her and Kuzuma get alone well, he looks after her and chases away all her strange stalker boyfriends.

At first he really does just seem like a womanizer, but you notice that he actually listens to everything she has to say, he gives her advice and watches out for her when he suspects trouble. She doesn't have many friends so he's incredibly important to her, and so is she to him.
I think you can all guess where I'm going with this right?

I enjoy reading manga with an admirable female character.
So often in manga when the focus is on a girl wanting love, the girls are so weak and fragile. Always making the wrong move and saying things that make you cringe. I'm not sure if it's a culture thing, like maybe Japanese men like that innocent, weak thing but as a modern woman I somewhat dislike how often the woman lean on the men in manga.
This manga is different, it seems more realistic to me then other romance shoujo manga.
She's still a love sick teenager thats silly in love, but on the other hand she does recognise when something just isn't right and doesn't try and force the relationship, she's also not constantly crying.
The ending wraps everything up well, it's doesn't leave it open for the audience to try and decide what happens, which I like!
Over all, beautiful drawings- my style! Fun storyline, realistic love encounters and happy ending.
It's was quite short though, could have done with a bit more bulk but it worked so I won't push it!

Thank you. Nanajima Kana for another lovely manga!

I love a story with a cool, tough, kick-ass female lead!
Setogawa Nozomi is that kind of a female.
Jail School, thats what people call Origawa Industry Public School. Nozomi is the only girl who attends Jail school and thats because of the body shop for building cars. She's also leader of her class 1-B and is trying to get Soga Keiji-Kun- the new transfer student, to join in on their class auto project, he refuses.
Persistent and Stubborn- two words used to describe her within the first 10 pages and they are correct her persistence pays off- he gives in and joins.
There is another thing about Nozomi- she actually is Kick-ass. Her nickname is;

 'Killer Machine'

Her personality is sweet though, she only ever become killer machine if someone hurts her friends. Otherwise she's a small statured, optimistic, energetic and friendly girl who seems to try and seek the best of people.
Soga Keiji-kun is clearly taken with her, he protects her, but then she protects him too.
It can get kinda saucy! ;)

It's a short manga only four chapters and 2 extras.
But it's cute and fun and romantic!
Also made me really want to learn more about cars.
And learn some sort of Martial Art!

Everyone loves a bit of drama and this manga is filled with it!
Yuki is our heroine, she's an interesting character, i'd describe her as monotone. She wear an expressionless mask unless she's using her- 'FUCK OFF' face.

She seems to lack empathy or she's spent too much time looking after useless men, that'll do it...
The thing about emotionless characters is when they do show a more tender side with a smile or laugh it's just that much more of an impact.

Now her step-brother- Taichi, is a popular pretty boy with an unhealthy sister complex.

I mean if my older brother had a poster of me in his room I couldn't possibly see it as anything but extremely weird.

The manga is all about Yuki and Taichi's parents re-marrying and how the two become a family. However their parents decide to take a spontaneous trip around the world leaving the two alone to live together, basically strangers now they're living together- alone.
Life for Yuki changes drastically in school and at home. Feelings develop, relationships splinter, theres even a slightly odd love triangle!
If I could change anything about this manga it would be to shake it up a tad!
It was just too predictable! Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the manga! The drawings are beautiful and the dialogue flows easily, but you can see exactly where it's going throughout the whole manga, theres never anything incredibly shocking or exciting because you can pretty much tell how it's going to go.
The ending is exactly like you'd expect. I will admit I was quite disappointed- everything was suggestive! There was no concrete ending, nothing to properly wrap it up.
I felt a bit cheated. However I realise some people really enjoy the idea of not knowing so they can create their own ending, I'm not like that, I want to know EXACTLY what the writer had in mind for the two main characters. It's not my story.
Overall it was enjoyable to read, fun characters, not too long and the artwork was fantastic!
I'd recommend it as a casual read!
No real lesson from this one, though maybe;
If he's not your biological brother it isn't really incest? hahahahahah >O<

Kitchen Princess

I remember so vividly bawling my eyes out at a pretty sad scene in this manga. Sure it broke my heart but when something can invoke that kind of emotion from you, you know it's special. I'll never forget how I felt when I read this manga.

Our heroine is a girl named- Najika-chan. Her parents passed away when she was young, and now she lives in an orphanage in Hokkaido. But she's about to move to Tokyo to fulfil her dream of becoming a pastry chef like her parents!
After her parents passed she cried all the time and no one could get her to eat. She fell into a pond one day almost drowning, but she was saved by a boy her age. At first she was angry he saved her, she wanted to join her parents. But then the boy gave her a flan and told her to love her life and smile, because her parents would want her to be happy. The boy left but from then on Najika-chan had a new love for life and a new goal to aim for.
Najika-chan grew up to become a kind-hearted girl who loved to do good and bring joy to the people around her, she was the big sister of the orphanage and looked after and loved her adopted family.
When she moves to the city to live in dorms at a prestigious school she's originally filled with excitement and hope. But High School kids suck.
Her first day went from bad to worse very quickly. By lunch she'd been set up to look bad and everyone begins to isolate her and spread vicious rumours. But instead of letting mean words get to her she picks herself up and shows everyone that she's here for herself and won't let entitled brats take away her big opportunity!
This manga is filed with passion, love, creativity, struggles and fights also some heart ache. But still i'd categories it as 'light-hearted' and powerful.
You'll become addicted to Najika's personality and the battles she's constantly faces.
She uses her cooking to bring people together and inspire!
Plus it all looks super yummy!

I have to admit though I do worry all this manga about entitled rich brats has really made me
bitter towards the rich.....>>

Furthermore the manga actually gives the recipes for the food made in the chapters!

Charming Junkie

The story of a young girl trying to make it as a model, the only problem is-

she can't smile.

Although she's constantly being rejected she continues to go to auditions hoping for her big break. Unfortunately when she smiles she looks scary as hell.
Her rival is a model named Umi, cute, petite and has an adorable smile- everything she wants to be.
But Umi has a secret- 'She' is actually a 'He'.
Naka-chan accidentally comes to discover this, in order to buy her silence Umi gives Naka-chan her opportunity to become a proper model!

A fun twist reveals that the two attend the same school, Umi's actual identity is of Student Body President Kajiwara.

Now it must be noted that Naka-chan is more than a pretty girl with a scary smiling face. She quite peculiar to say the least. She's incredibly passionate to the point of seeming rather crazy. People find her scary due to her face, she's wants to change how people see her, to become more beautiful. Her motivations for wanting to become a model start of simple but as her career begins to developed so does her love for the job. Which cause her to become more passionate which = extra crazy.

Due to Umi's promise to make Naka-chan a real model in exchange for her silence , they become something of partners from this point on. Although Umi is harsh with Naka-chan he does help her to express herself- she progresses through his advice and guidance and she helps to protect his secret at all costs!
Naka-chan improves with Umi's help, soon people begin to notice how beautiful she really is and Umi, a 14 year old boy, begins to mature into a man- Soon he'll outgrow female modelling, but will he be able to make it in the male modelling industry or will the end of Umi mean the end of his career?
There are 90 chapters in this manga so the story really develops along with the characters and relationships. Theres love triangles, betrayal, heart break and of course- intense modelling.

A brilliantly funny manga with inventive and eccentric characters!
You'll get to see where passion can bring you and that giving up is never an option!
Also the jobs they take and tasks they have to complete can be odd and creative! Thats the entertainment industry for you!

Overall an enjoyable comedy about life as an upcoming model!
