Chicchai Toki Kara Suki Dakedo

Childhood friends. It's a popular theme in Japanese manga and it's always a member of the opposite sex, I can't recall if i've ever read a manga where the childhood friends are both female or male. I suspect it wouldn't be as interesting.
But It did make me wonder, can a romance between childhood friends really work? I mean you'd have a routine already, it'd be difficult to change your dynamic into a romantic one. Like suddenly holding hands or kissing, regardless of how much you want it, humans are creatures of habit so I imagine it'd be difficult.
On the other hand you get to date your best friend.

That's what this manga is all about. Two childhood friends trying to have a go at dating.
Tomori Tsubasa has always secretly loved her childhood friend Isagawa Shou.

He's handsome, very popular and even though he's been confessed to plenty of time he's always rejected, giving Tsubasa hope.
Eventually Tsubasa blurts out how she feels and they progress from there.
It's hard to tell how Shou really feels, I think we can all agree how annoying that is. Shou is a good looking character, but honestly he bothers me. He lacks in and real emotion, he's only ever sweet once told off, never takes the initiative so you always feel the romance is one-sided. I've dated the real thing, it can be quite unsettling....
However they're really cute together when he puts in any effort at all, i'm enjoying watching their relationship evolve from friendship, will it last or crash and burn?
It can get pretty cringy- but that's just teenage love stories in a nut shell.

The manga is still ongoing so theres still time to see how these two kids work things out!
The drawings are great, the style differs slightly for each character. Tsubasa always looks a bit raggedy and nervous, she's also the only one ever drawn in comedic styles, then again she'd the only one that can't seem to keep her cool!

Shou on the other hand is drawn tidy and collective, just like his character. However he's also an artist, his hair fits the part. I kind of wonder how the two managed to stay such close friends with their very different personalities. Maybe Shou has secretly loved her the whole time too without even noticing...

Over all a sweet story and an enjoyable read!
It'll make you laugh and cover your eyes with shock at the silly things Tsubasa does!
It'll also make you wish you had a childhood friend, or make you get in contact again with one!
It does take a few months for even one update though....>>
